Tom Cruise Makes Daring Descent at Paris Olympics Closing

Tom Cruise made a spectacular entrance at the Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday night by abseiling from the roof of the Stade de France. Dressed in a leather jacket and gloves, the “Mission: Impossible” star descended into the stadium as H.E.R. played guitar, causing the audience to erupt in excitement.

In a pre-recorded segment, Cruise was shown traveling from Paris to the US, visiting the Hollywood sign, and showcasing the Olympic colors to officially hand over the Games to Los Angeles for 2028.

After rappelling down approximately 50 meters (164 feet), Cruise was welcomed by a cheering crowd of athletes. The stunt took place with H.E.R. playing an electric guitar, and Cruise then took the Olympic flag from American gymnast Simone Biles before speeding away on a motorbike.

The pre-recorded footage of Cruise’s journey was set to music by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who later performed “Can’t Stop” on a beach in Los Angeles. Other performers included Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre. Known for his daring stunts, Cruise has previously scaled the Burj Khalifa and hung from a plane for his films. Artistic director Thomas Jolly added to the event’s grandeur with a segment featuring dancers rolling five giant rings to form the Olympic logo.
