Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced that the New Gwadar International Airport will officially commence operations from January 20, marking a significant milestone for the region’s development. The airport, located in Balochistan, is expected to become a key hub for both domestic and international flights.
According to a notification issued by the CAA, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will operate the initial flights. This is the first official confirmation regarding the operational start of the airport, which is poised to improve regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth.

Both local and international airlines have expressed interest in launching flights to the new airport, which will be crucial for promoting trade, tourism, and business in the strategically important city of Gwadar. The airport’s modern facilities are designed to accommodate larger aircraft and cater to international travellers.
The airport’s opening is a part of Pakistan’s broader infrastructure enhancement efforts, particularly in Gwadar, which is a focal point of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The new facility is expected to play a key role in positioning Gwadar as a global trade and maritime hub.
Additionally, after a four-and-a-half-year hiatus, PIA resumed its operations to Europe with a flight to Paris, further boosting Pakistan’s international aviation connections.
