PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a weather alert for rain and thunderstorms across the province. The warning covers the period from May 2 to May 4.
According to officials, the PDMA has predicted a strong westerly weather system entering the region. This system is expected to bring dust storms, heavy rain, and isolated hailstorms in several districts.
The PDMA said upper districts may face heavy rainfall and strong winds. Areas including Chitral, Swat, Dir, and Kohistan are expected to be most affected. Plains such as Peshawar, Mardan, and Nowshera may also experience intense rain.
Authorities have warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas. The PDMA also highlighted the risk of water accumulation in local drains. Landslides may occur in vulnerable mountainous regions during the weather system.
Strong winds could damage weak structures, electricity poles, and solar panels. The PDMA has advised citizens to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
Farmers have been urged to protect their crops from possible damage. The disaster management authority stressed the importance of early preparation to reduce agricultural losses.
The PDMA has directed district administrations to stay on high alert. Rescue teams have been instructed to remain ready for emergency response. Officials have also been told to ensure availability of resources in affected areas.
In addition, authorities have been asked to keep major highways open. They have also been directed to maintain traffic flow and improve drainage systems to prevent flooding on roads.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has confirmed the presence of a westerly wave affecting multiple regions. It forecasts thunderstorms, rain, and hail in districts including Abbottabad, Mansehra, Swat, Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, and Dera Ismail Khan.
