NCCIA Registers PECA Case Against PTI Founder’s Sister Noreen Niazi

NCCIA Registers PECA Case Against PTI Founder’s Sister Noreen Niazi

ISLAMABAD – The NCCIA has registered a case against Noreen Niazi, the sister of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 and several provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case relates to statements allegedly made by Noreen Niazi during a podcast interview. Authorities claim the remarks contained false and baseless allegations against the Pakistani state, its institutions, and the armed forces.

The FIR states that the comments were allegedly intended to weaken public confidence in state institutions and create fear among the public. Investigators also allege that the content was provocative and aimed at spreading distrust.

Officials said the NCCIA registered the case under Sections 20 and 26-A of PECA 2016. The FIR also includes Sections 505 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the investigation record, the podcast interview gained wide attention after clips were shared by multiple accounts on X, formerly known as Twitter. Authorities allege the content reached a large audience through repeated social media circulation.

The FIR further claims that Noreen Niazi attempted to discredit the achievements of the Pakistan Armed Forces during Operation Marka-e-Haq. Investigators allege that the interview promoted a false narrative designed to create hatred, fear, and mistrust toward state institutions.

Officials also alleged that the social media activity formed part of an organised campaign against state and security institutions. These claims are part of the ongoing investigation and have been included in the registered case.

According to the FIR, Noreen Niazi received several notices asking her to appear before investigators and record her statement. Authorities said she was requested to cooperate with the inquiry before the case was formally registered.

The NCCIA stated that the decision to register the case came after investigators reviewed preliminary evidence and concluded that a prima facie offence had been established under the relevant laws.

Investigators have also indicated that the inquiry will not be limited to one individual. The agency said it will examine whether any other persons were involved in the alleged offences or played a role in the dissemination of the disputed content.
