Shaheen Afridi to be in Squad for Test Series Against Bangladesh

Shaheen Afridi has confirmed his availability to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, set to begin in August in Rawalpindi, as reported by a local news channel. The training camp for the series will start on August 6, with Afridi expected to join.

Afridi recently gained attention after a confrontation with Mohammad Yousuf during Pakistan’s England tour before the T20 World Cup 2024. Reports from Lahore indicated that some coaches were concerned about Afridi’s attitude during the tour.

The incident reportedly occurred when Afridi was bowling in the nets at Headingley. Yousuf, the batting coach, commented on Afridi’s frequent no-balls, which irritated the fast bowler. Afridi responded by telling Yousuf to focus on his own duties.

Team sources described the incident as a “heat-of-the-moment” situation that was quickly resolved. Senior manager Wahab Riaz later spoke with Afridi about his conduct, leading to an apology from Afridi to Yousuf.

Since the incident was revealed in Pakistan head coach Gary Kirsten’s report to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Afridi has faced severe scrutiny and criticism. However, a PCB source stated, “This was merely a routine instance of a heated moment, and the issue was settled immediately.”
