The Faculty of Humanities at Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) successfully conducted a Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop on journalist safety on December 9โ10, 2025. Humanities hosts two-day workshop in collaboration with the Journalism & Media International Center (JMIC), Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway.
The workshop brought together journalists, media educators, and communication professionals to strengthen skills in conflict-sensitive reporting, digital security, trauma awareness, and ethical decision-making in high-risk environments. Humanities hosts two-day sessions designed to equip participants with practical tools for field safety and newsroom challenges.
The first day focused on Pakistanโs evolving conflict landscape and field reporting realities. Dr. Altaf Ullah Khan, Dean of Humanities, delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the urgency of preparing journalists for unpredictable conditions. Sessions were facilitated by Dr. Syed Muhammad Saqib, Associate Professor of Mass Communication at FCCU.
Multimedia journalist Ms. Xari Jalil discussed the complexities of conflict reporting and frontline challenges. Senior journalist Dr. Huma Sadaf led a session on โReporting Under Pressure,โ exploring newsroom constraints, decision-making, and verification challenges. Ms. Shiba Gill addressed identity-based risks and field realities from a minority journalistโs perspective. The day concluded with a two-hour online TOT methodology session by Ms. Abeer Saady, guided by Dr. Saqib on campus.
The second day emphasized digital safety, emotional well-being, and TOT simulations. Ms. Mehwish Batool discussed gendered online harassment, data leaks, and strategies to protect digital footprints. Ms. Asma Basharat shared insights on digital hygiene and AI-driven threats. Ms. Sadia Khalid focused on emotional resilience, trauma management, and mental health practices for journalists. The workshop concluded with Part 2 of Ms. Abeer Saadyโs methodology training, where participants presented safety modules and received live feedback.
The two-day TOT workshop, part of FCCUโs long-standing partnership with JMIC, reaffirmed the universityโs commitment to ethical, safety-conscious journalism. Through expert-led sessions, scenario-based activities, and collaborative learning, Humanities hosts two-day sessions that prepare journalists to navigate Pakistanโs complex media and security landscape.
