Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, arrives in Tehran to attend the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, as part of Pakistan’s official delegation.
Upon his arrival in the Iranian capital, Field Marshal Asim Munir was received by Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. Senior Iranian military and civilian officials were also present to welcome the Pakistani delegation.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also attended the reception. His presence highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s participation in the funeral ceremonies.
The visit forms part of Pakistan’s official representation at the funeral proceedings. Senior Pakistani leaders are expected to offer condolences and express solidarity with the Iranian government and people.
Field Marshal Asim Munir arrives in Tehran shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed from Islamabad on a one-day official visit to Iran.
The prime minister is leading a high-level delegation to attend the funeral of the late Iranian leader. The delegation reflects Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining close diplomatic relations with Iran.
The official delegation includes Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.
Information Minister Atta Tarar is also accompanying the prime minister. Other members include Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari, and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to convey condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan. He will also reaffirm Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran during its period of national mourning.
The funeral ceremonies are taking place in Tehran with leaders and dignitaries attending from several countries. Large crowds are also expected to participate in the public events.
Iran has announced several days of funeral ceremonies to honor Ali Khamenei. The events are expected to include major processions in Tehran before continuing in the cities of Qom and Mashhad.
Additional commemorative ceremonies are also planned in the Iraqi holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. These events are expected to attract religious leaders and mourners from across the region.
Iranian officials have called for large public participation throughout the funeral period. Authorities believe the ceremonies will demonstrate national unity during a difficult time.
Asim Munir arrives as Iran strengthens security and finalizes arrangements for one of the country’s largest state ceremonies. Officials have increased security measures because of the expected arrival of international delegations and millions of mourners.
Following his engagements in Tehran, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to travel to Istanbul for a separate bilateral visit to Türkiye. His trip will continue after Pakistan concludes its official participation in the funeral proceedings.
