LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed three Food businesses and imposed fines worth Rs. 250,000 on two others during a large-scale enforcement operation in Lahore.
The crackdown was carried out in Shahdara, Park View, Railway Road, and nearby areas. The operation targeted restaurants and food manufacturing units accused of violating food safety and hygiene regulations.
According to the Punjab Food Authority, inspection teams examined several businesses during the operation. Officials found serious violations that could pose risks to public health.
During the inspections, authorities confiscated and destroyed more than 40 kilograms of substandard meat. They also recovered hazardous Chinese salt that was considered unsafe for use in Food preparation.
Among the businesses sealed were a well-known breakfast restaurant, a popular Sajji outlet, and a Murabba manufacturing unit. Officials said these facilities failed to meet required hygiene and safety standards.
The Punjab Food Authority also imposed a Rs. 200,000 fine on another well-known restaurant. According to officials, the restaurant repeatedly ignored previous improvement notices issued by the authority.
Punjab Food Authority Director General Syed Musa Raza said inspectors found shocking conditions inside several production facilities.
He said live frogs and insects were discovered in food production areas during inspections. Such conditions raised serious concerns about sanitation and consumer safety.
Officials also found open drains, foul smells, and fungus-contaminated freezers inside some facilities. These unhygienic conditions created a high risk of contamination and made the products unsafe for public consumption.
The authority said maintaining proper hygiene is essential for protecting consumers from foodborne illnesses. Businesses are required to follow strict safety standards during food preparation, storage, and manufacturing.
The Punjab Food Authority regularly carries out inspections across the province to monitor compliance with food safety laws. Officials said businesses that fail to meet legal requirements may face fines, closure, or other legal action.
The authority urged restaurant owners and food manufacturers to improve cleanliness and ensure their operations meet the required standards. It also encouraged businesses to address violations immediately after receiving official notices.
Consumers have also been advised to report unhygienic Food outlets to the Punjab Food Authority. Public complaints help inspection teams identify businesses that may be violating health and safety regulations.
The PFA reaffirmed that enforcement operations will continue throughout Punjab. Officials said the goal is to ensure that restaurants, factories, and other food businesses provide safe and hygienic products to the public.
