The spring equinox on Thursday is set to bring the warmest day of 2025 in the UK, with temperatures forecast to reach well above average, according to the Met Office. Following a high of 18.7ยฐC in Northolt, west London, on Wednesday, meteorologists predict even warmer conditions on Thursday.
Simon Partridge, a Met Office meteorologist, stated that temperatures could soar to 19ยฐC or 20ยฐC widely across central England, with some areas possibly reaching 21ยฐC. The highest temperatures are expected in regions stretching from London and the home counties to the southern Midlands, with plenty of sunshine and minimal clouds.

The warmer temperatures coincide with the arrival of astronomical spring, marked by the spring equinox, making parts of the UK hotter than European cities such as Barcelona (15ยฐC) and Athens (12ยฐC). Despite this, the UK’s spring equinox temperature record of 21.5ยฐC, set in 1972, is unlikely to be broken this year, according to Met Office spokesperson Stephen Dixon.
Thursdayโs warm weather will be followed by cooler, unsettled conditions. Showers are expected to move northeast across parts of the UK on Friday, starting in Cornwall. The weekend will see rain affecting much of the country as the warm spell gradually comes to an end.
