Sulaiman & Qasim Appeal to UN for Imran Khan’s Release

Sulaiman & Qasim Appeal to UN for Imran Khan’s Release

ISLAMABAD – The sons of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan have formally approached the United Nations, seeking intervention over what they describe as “inhumane treatment” of their father in custody.

According to reports, Sulaiman Khan and Qasim Khan have submitted an appeal to the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture. They raised concerns about their father’s health, safety, and prison conditions at Adiala Jail, where he has been incarcerated for several months.

In their petition, the brothers alleged that Imran Khan is being kept in solitary confinement with inadequate nutrition and limited medical care. They also claimed that constant surveillance and restrictions on communication amount to psychological torture.

The appeal stressed that such treatment violates international human rights standards and undermines human dignity. The family has urged the UN to take immediate notice and ensure that basic rights are respected.

The petition also referred to earlier concerns raised by international organizations. Both Amnesty International and the U.S. State Department have reportedly highlighted issues regarding Imran Khan’s health and the conditions of his detention.

Khan, who has been held at Adiala Jail since late 2023, is facing multiple cases related to corruption, violence, and violation of state secrets. Despite these charges, his party continues to describe his imprisonment as politically motivated.

Supporters argue that the latest move by his sons reflects growing international attention to his situation. Human rights groups have also called for transparency in the legal process and humane treatment of all political prisoners.

The appeal to the UN is expected to intensify debate over the fairness of Pakistan’s justice system and the global responsibility to uphold human rights. For Khan’s family and supporters, the priority remains his safety and well-being while in custody.
