The Punjab government has announced plans to introduce a dedicated Riot Management Team (RMT) in response to the rising incidents of violent protests and civil unrest in the region. The new force will consist of 200 officers, divided into 15 specialized units. These units will include a mob control unit, water cannon unit, rubber bullet unit, and stun gun unit, specifically designed to handle unruly crowds.
Equipped with modern tools such as surveillance drones, electric shock shields, and advanced vehicles, the RMT will also utilize trained dogs to assist with crowd control. A police official confirmed that the new force will have the legal authority to act decisively when necessary, aiming to maintain public order amid recent escalations of protests and property damage.

This development comes amid broader efforts to prevent unrest and ensure a swift response to potential disruptions in the province. The introduction of this specialized team is seen as a direct reaction to growing concerns over the increasing frequency and intensity of protests in Punjab.
In a related incident, the Punjab Police recently thwarted a major terrorist attack on the Chapri Police Station in Mianwali, located near the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. More than 20 militants stormed the station with heavy weapons, but the police successfully repelled the attackers, killing four of them. Despite the fierce battle, no police officers were harmed. Punjab’s Inspector General, Dr. Usman Anwar, commended the Mianwali police for their bravery and professionalism in handling the situation, reaffirming Punjab Police’s commitment to neutralizing terrorist threats.
