Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT-MM1, has successfully completed its testing phase and is now operational, marking a key milestone in the nation’s space and digital advancements.

At the PAKSAT-MM1 Satellite Application Conference, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja reiterated the government’s dedication to leveraging space technologies for national development.

She stated, “The success of PAKSAT-MM1 will transform our communication infrastructure, benefiting all sectors of society.”

The satellite aims to improve internet connectivity, particularly in remote areas, supporting the government’s vision of a digitally connected Pakistan. “Digitalisation is essential for socio-economic prosperity,” Khawaja emphasized.

She also highlighted Pakistan’s progress in the UN’s e-governance development index, noting a 14-point improvement that has elevated the country to a high tier of digital e-governance in Asia.

SUPARCO Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Khan praised the team behind PAKSAT-MM1, describing the satellite as vital for socio-economic growth and enhancing Pakistan’s standing in the global space industry.

“PAKSAT-MM1 will provide services like DTH, community internet, tele-education, and tele-medicine to unconnected areas,” he added, encouraging local industries to collaborate on future space initiatives.

Expected to operate for over 15 years, PAKSAT-MM1 will offer broadband, VSAT connectivity, and other services, furthering Pakistan’s goal of becoming a digitally empowered nation.

The satellite operates in various bands, including C, Ku, Ka, and L, showcasing advancements in Pakistan’s space technology. The event brought together government officials, industry leaders, and experts, all celebrating the satellite’s role in bridging the digital divide and promoting national growth.
