Babar Azam May Resign as Pakistan Captain Upon Homecoming

Disappointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and facing criticism from former cricketers, Babar Azam is reportedly considering stepping down as the captain of white-ball cricket after the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

The Pakistan team’s performance in the tournament has been underwhelming, putting them on the brink of elimination. Sources reveal that the 29-year-old captain is seeking guidance on his future and has consulted with former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja and others close to him.

While initial plans were to make a decision while in India, Babar is now expected to finalize his choice upon returning to Pakistan. Close aides are advising him to step down from leadership roles in both red and white-ball cricket, considering challenges faced by prominent captains in Test series, particularly in Australia.

The team’s setbacks against India, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan have contributed to the contemplation of this decision. Babar Azam still has the opportunity to conclude the World Cup campaign with 10 points, but the net run-rate is a crucial factor.

To surpass New Zealand, Pakistan would need a substantial victory against England, and the specific scenarios vary depending on whether they bat or bowl first.
